This model is designed to slide onto any 15mm lightweight rails (rods 15mm in diameter and spaced 60mm from rod center to rod center) and moves in and out and can connect to any lens via one of Zacuto's industry standard sized gears or a ZipGear Universal for non-pitched lenses. That means this follow focus is universal and compatible with any camera, as long as a set of 15mm rails are attached underneath.
The Zacuto Z-Focus is completely gear-driven design for slip free, accurate movement and has a helical gear adjustment screw to allow the user to tighten up gear play. The follow focus can be used on the left or right side of the lens and the gear can be flipped to the front or back of the unit to accommodate shorter lenses. There is a standard accessory port for Zacuto, Chrosziel, and Arri follow focus whips and speed cranks and a removable, conical marking disc to create distance marks for repeatable focus pulls.
The follow focus will come standard with a .8 pitch 1” diameter gear. .8 is also called cine pitch or 32 and is an industry standard size. You can change that gear to a .8 pitch 1 3/8” gear or a .5 pitch (Canon broadcast lenses) or .6 pitch (Fuji lenses) gear for no additional fee. We also have a .8 pitch wide gear and .8 pitch 2 ¼” diameter gear which can be substituted for a fee. If your lenses are not pitched (most DSLR and basic video camera lenses) you can add our ZipGear Universal to your lens and use the .8 gear that comes standard with the follow focus. The ZipGears are cut to fit the circumference of your lens and tightened with a connector and Allen key. These straps are pitched to .8 and are 13.5” long.
