The NTG4+ is the first microphone to offer a built-in battery. Charged via MicroUSB (a two-hour charge time), this internal battery can run for 150 hours of operation. If run off phantom power, be sure to use 48V power. Should phantom power go out while in use, the microphone will switch to battery power. Again, this is only if the phantom power is gone – not when insufficient as when using 12V or 24V phantom power. Moreover, this automatic power switching means you’ll want to ensure your mic has powered off after the attached camera has (or other power source).
Digital Switching. The quick adjustment buttons on the microphone feature “persistent states” – meaning that the settings will stay in place as the microphone is switched off and on. Most notable of the buttons is the High Frequency Boost which is useful when the mic is used with a blimp-style wind guard.
