The Canon XF405 Professional Camcorder extends the Canon XF line of camcorders as a 4K UHD capable camera with HDMI 2.0 and 3G-SDI output. Built with a 1? 4K UHD CMOS image sensor and utilizing dual DIGIC DV 6 image processors, the XF405 can record 4K UHD video at 60p (as well as Full HD slow motion recording of up to 120fps).
What sets the XF405 apart from the XF400 is the inclusion of the 3G-SDI terminal; otherwise both models include dual SD card slots, 15x optical zoom lens, an HDMI 2.0 terminal, two XLR terminals with independent audio level control, an adjustable 3.5? touch panel LCD monitor, a built-in 0.24? EVF, and a detatchable handle.

1? 4K UHD CMOS Image Sensor. Featuring a Canon 1? 4K UHD CMOS image sensor capable of video capture at 60p in 4K UHD (120fps in Full HD), the XF405 allows for bigger photosites — resulting in improved images with less noise in low-light. The camera’s DIGIC DV 6 image processors also enhance its recording performance. Moreover, the XF405 professional camcorder has a wide dynamic range of 800% for natural and realistic image capture.
15x Optical 4K UHD Zoom Lens with 5-Axis O.I.S. The lens on this camcorder is a Canon 4K video lens with a 15x optical zoom that maintains 4K UHD quality throughout the zoom range (a 35mm film equivalent focal length range of 25.5 to 382.5mm. A 9-blade iris in the lens makes for a beautiful bokeh, and built-in ND filter works at three densities. Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) on the Canon XF405 is a 5-axis system with three modes of stabilization: standard, dynamic, and powered.
Dual Pixel CMOS AF. Canon’s autofocus technology, Dual Pixel CMOS AF, is a system that provides crisp frame-by-frame accuracy by configuring each pixel in the CMOS sensor with two photodiodes. By implementing phase-difference AF, smooth focusing is accomplished with much higher speed and accuracy. Autofocus can be employed on the XF405’s LCD, which is a 3.5? touchscreen, by tapping finger on the desired area. Dual Pixel CMOS AF offers continuous AF, Face Detection AF, and a Dual Pixel Focus Guide.
Dual SD Card Slots. The XF405 offers 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) recording in MP4 format at up to 60p, and the compact size of the MP4 codec allows the camcorder to capture video directly to SD cards — either simultaneously or in relay.
Physical Features of the XF405. Video can be monitored directly on the camcorder either through the 0.24? EVF or on the 3.5? Touch Panel LCD. There are five assignable buttons on the XF405 that can be set to the following camera functions (that are also available through the camera’s intuitive menu): Powered IS, Forced backlight correction, Face only AF, Priority WB, Pre-REC, Infrared light, Monitor channel, Focus Guide, AF/MF, REC review, Enlarge Image, Photo, Off. The handle of the camera, which is removable, features two XLR terminals with independent settings.
HDMI 2.0 and 3G-SDI Out. The Canon XF405 features both an HDMI 2.0 Terminal and a 3G-SDI Terminal for external recorder/monitors or ENG applications.
Network Connections for FTP Transfer and Browser Remote (Wired and Wi-Fi® Connectivity). The XF405 Professional Camcorder offers both wired and wireless connectivity to enable recorded files to be shared and transmitted back to the station or home base via FTP for editing or live streaming. The camcorder can also be accessed remotely from a normal web browser running on a laptop or a compatible smart device to control functions such as record start/stop, AF/MF switching, focus/zoom settings and white balance mode. Background transfer of MP4 format video files via FTP links is also possible, enabling the latest news images, for example, to be distributed quickly over the Internet.
